This series consists of correspondence involving Father Phillip Bergin Gordon. Letters sent and letters received are included in this series. Correspondence concern the moving of Indian graves in response to flooding, creation of a new church, education, road construction, and births and deaths. Included are lists of Indians buried in the old Catholic Cemetery with their age at the time of death and the date of their death.

Hayward Boarding School

The Hayward Indian School in Hawyward, Wisconsin, was opened in 1901 as a boarding school for the Chippewa of the Lac Courte Oreille Reservation. It was subordinate to the La Pointe Agency until 1904. About 1911 it was given agency duties for the reservation. The school was closed in 1934, and its duties were transferred to the Lac du Flambeau Agency. ...
